Roy A. Crouch, Jr., 90, of Austin passed away July 25, 2011 in Austin after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Roy was born November 8, 1920 in Downey Iowa to Dr. Roy A. Crouch, Sr. and Helen Bailey Crouch. Roy grew up in Belton, Texas and graduated from Baylor University in 1940. He worked as a newspaper reporter in Corpus Christi and San Antonio and worked for the FBI before joining the US Army Air Corp. Roy A. Crouch, Jr., 90, of Austin passed away July 25, 2011 in Austin after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Roy was born November 8, 1920 in Downey Iowa to Dr. Roy A. Crouch, Sr. and Helen Bailey Crouch. Roy grew up in Belton, Texas and graduated from Baylor University in 1940. He worked as a newspaper reporter in Corpus Christi and San Antonio and worked for the FBI before joining the US Army Air Corp. Roy went through basic training and full flight training before becoming the Cadet Captain of his graduating class. He graduated as a P-38 Fighter Pilot in 1944 and was assigned to the 385th Fighter Squadron of the 364th Fighter Group based in England. He flew 47 missions in the P-38 and the P-51 over France and Germany and was credited with at least two German Aircraft shot down. He was shot down and captured in October, 1944. He was a POW in Germany until April, 1945. After returning home, he was employed by NCR, Corporation for 31 years, until retiring in 1977. He married Murl Price in 1950 and they had three children. Murl passed away in 1984. He married Mary Lee Scudder in 1988. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Loren, sister, Jean Rae, and his wife, Murl. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee; two daughters, Pamela Butt and her husband, Howard Butt, III, and Medrith Crouch Greene; his son, Loren Crouch and his wife, Jacqueline; seven grandchildren, Howard Butt, IV, Jeffrey Roy Butt, Loren Crouch, Jonathan Crouch, Hillary Butt, Sarah DeFreitas and Rachel Greene; two step-daughters, Marianne Scudder and Michelle Scudder Herring and her husband, Brooks; one step-son, William Scudder and his wife, Sherry; step-grandchildren, Mason Herring, Elizabeth Hornor, Marshall Herring, Will Scudder and Alex Scudder. Roy's passions were his family, his country and the game of golf. A Funeral Service will be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning on Monday, the 1st of August 2011, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. A graveside service with US Army Honors will be held at half past twelve o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 1st of August, at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville, Texas. In lieu of flowers and the usual remembrances, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3429 Executive Center Drive, Suite # 100, Austin, TX 78731-1620 or the Texas Home Health Hospice, 3520 Executive Center Drive, Suite 320, Austin, TX 78731.
