Our loving Deacon Donald Lee Schnurr passed away on Saturday March 21, 2015. He was surrounded by his loving family and wife, who were by his side during his peaceful passing.
"Don" was born on September 6, 1930 in Fort Wayne Indiana. A child of the depression, he immersed himself at an early age in the dedication of his life to God's work, and enrolled in Sacred Heart Academy Seminary in High School. However, the Lord moved him to marry and start a family. The calling to serve never left Don, and he was ordained to the diaconate for the Dallas Diocese and was assigned to St. Pius X Catholic Church in 1978. He was among a unique group who were the first men to be ordained permanent Deacon's for the Diocese of Dallas. Don worked at The Dallas Morning News for over 30 years and retired to become a full time Deacon. Don's ministry was scripture studies. His final parish was Emmaus Catholic Church in Austin, Texas.
Don was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend and love of his life, Marjorie Fox, on May 6, 1950 and helped raise their six children with love, discipline and patience. He taught them to explore the beauty of the gospels and lead a moral and loving life leading many of them to become active educators. He always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, and his 17 grandchildren filled the social media pages with tributes to the time he found to spend with each one of them in the same way he did with his own children.
Don is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marjorie Louise Schnurr, his son Frederick (wife Joyce) Schnurr, son Gregory Schnurr, daughter Linda (husband David) Saucedo, daughter Cynthia (husband Geoff) Hambrick, son Douglas Schnurr, daughter Laura (husband Bob) Breen, 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Don is proceeded in death by his parents Edward and Helen and brother's Eugene, Tom and Bobby Schnurr.
Services will be held on Friday, March the 27th at 1:00 p.m. at Emmaus Catholic Church at 1718 Lohmans Crossing Rd, Lakeway, TX 78734, reception to follow. Flowers are welcome.
