Robert Lamar Allen, 88, of Austin, Texas passed away January 31, 2012 in Austin. He was born August 30, 1923 in El Campo, Texas to R. Lamar Allen and Annie Lee Allen.

He was a graduate of The University of Texas and served in the US Air Force. During World War II, he was a tailgunner until his plane was shot down and he was captured. He was a POW until he escaped and was hidden by the French underground.

He enjoyed working with his hands including wood working, restoring homes and furniture...

He was a graduate of The University of Texas and served in the US Air Force. During World War II, he was a tailgunner until his plane was shot down and he was captured. He was a POW until he escaped and was hidden by the French underground.

He enjoyed working with his hands including wood working, restoring homes and furniture and building. He was a general contractor and owned his own business for many years.

He was an active member of Austin Baptist Church and loved his Sunday School Class and participated in mission projects.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Martha Allen; 2 brothers, Sam Allen of Austin and Clayton Allen of Cisco; stepchildren, Susan Pierce of Florence, Donnie Rehwaldt of San Antonio, Pamela Drumm of San Antonio, Stan Harper of Weatherford, Becky Taylor of Lockhart and Matthew Harper of Georgetown; 14 Grandchildren; numerous other family members and friends.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from one o'clock until three o'clock in the afternoon, on Saturday, the 4th of February 2012, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.

Funeral services will be conducted at three o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 4th of February, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas with Dr. Gary Dyer officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas at a later date.
