Obituary


On Monday, November 28, 2016, God reached down His hand and Richard (Dick) Mather was taken to heaven with a personal escort. Then God gave Dick a guided tour of that beautiful city. Dick saw the mansion that awaited him and he was reunited with those who had gone before him, his father Robert (Bob) Mather and his mother Mary Mather. He was also met by aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dick was born November 4, 1938 in Baltimore, Maryland, and lived there while he earned his Master's Degree from the University of Baltimore. Then...

On Monday, November 28, 2016, God reached down His hand and Richard (Dick) Mather was taken to heaven with a personal escort. Then God gave Dick a guided tour of that beautiful city. Dick saw the mansion that awaited him and he was reunited with those who had gone before him, his father Robert (Bob) Mather and his mother Mary Mather. He was also met by aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dick was born November 4, 1938 in Baltimore, Maryland, and lived there while he earned his Master's Degree from the University of Baltimore. Then he joined the Air Force. During the four years he was in the Air Force, he was stationed in Austin at Bergstrom Air Force Base. After four years in the Air Force, he worked at the State Health Department and retired from there in 1996.

Dick knew the Lord as his personal Savior and was active in many aspects of serving the Lord at Hyde Park Baptist Church.

Dick is survived by his wife, Janis and by many cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Dick's name to Hyde Park Baptist Church, 3901 Speedway, Austin, TX 78751.
Pallbearers will be the men in the Senior Adult Men's Bible study of which Dick was a member: Joe Seale, Wayne Christie, Clarence Gelker, Jeff Smith, Don Petter and Steve Ray.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016, from 3:30-6:30 PM at Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Hyde Park Baptist Church with Dr. J. Kie Bowman, Sr. Pastor and Rev. Dan Gardner Assoc. Pastor of Senior Adults officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Live Oak Cemetery in Manchaca, TX.
