Betty Aschenbeck Daniel, age 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 17, 2017, in Austin, Texas. Betty was born on October 9, 1927, in Wharton, Texas, to Ruth Campbell Aschenbeck and Walter B. Aschenbeck. Upon graduation from Wharton High School, Betty attended the University of Texas, where she met and soon married Col. David E. Daniel, who was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base. Col. Daniel's duty assignments took the family to New York, Virginia, Washington DC, California, Hawaii, Georgia, Florida, Delaware, and New Jersey. Upon retirement from the Air Force in 1970, they moved back to the city where they met. Danny started a second career in sales and office management for Austin Toyota, where Betty worked part-time as a bookkeeper, until they both fully retired.

Betty was a devoted wife and loving mother to her children and grandchildren, opening her home to all and dedicating herself to her family. She was especially devoted to her grandchildren and cared for and supported them throughout her life. During her husband's time in the Air Force, Betty was called upon to fulfill many social responsibilities, hosting numerous receptions and events in her home and serving in leadership roles in the Officers Wives Club. She was an avid bridge player, playing several times a week up until the last few months of life. She greatly valued her friendships with neighbors, bridge partners, and those with whom she gathered regularly for lunch. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was appreciated by all who knew her.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by son David E. Daniel Jr. and wife Susan of Austin; and by son Robert E. Daniel and wife Penni of Temple, Texas. Betty is also survived by her grandchildren Katherine Daniel and partner Ken of Oakland, California; Will Daniel of Irving, Texas; Melissa Orr and husband Jared of Arlington, Texas; Jonathon Daniel and husband David of Richardson, Texas; Rebecca Mock and husband Caleb of Temple, Texas; Mary Daniel of Temple, Texas; and Alex Daniel of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by great grandsons Abraham Orr, Daniel Orr and Jude Orr of Arlington, Texas, as well as Theodore Lewis of Oakland, California; and by her brother Walter Aschenbeck, Jr., and his wife Debra of Celina, Texas.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, May 25, at 10:00 am at Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 am at the same location. All are welcome to attend and to celebrate Betty's life.

The family would like to thank Betty's neighbors, especially Peggy and Buddy Newcomb, for their wonderful help and support. A special thanks goes to Betty's caregiver, Alicia Collins, who tenderly cared for Betty in her final days.
